Vibrating fire alarm for the deaf

  • Smoke alarms are an integral part of any building, required by the building regulations, but hotels have a particular additional directive from the DDA, where they are legally required to also provide for the needs of the hard of hearing or the deaf in case of a fire.
  • Deafgard is the ideal solution to cover hotels, motels, or any jobs were employees need to sleep on the business premises and ensure they do comply with DDA recommendations. Deafgard is easily portable, light at 830 grams, and quickly fitted to any room. The unit is reliable and safe, and makes use of wire-free technology to pick up a sounding fire alarm and relay it to the deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Simple to use, and perfect to give peace of mind to your guests, the guest simply needs to place the unit next to the bed and put the vibrator pad under their pillow. Should a fire alarm sound, the guest will ‘hear’ the alarm via the unit, which will receive the alarm signal and cause the pad to vibrate. A high-intensity strobe will also sound on the receiver, and the combination of the vibration and the strobe will awaken the guest and giving them the same early warning that anyone else would receive from a standard smoke alarm.
  • This is a vital, life saving piece of equipment, and an amazing innovation to protect deaf people in an emergency. The Deafgard unit also has an alarm clock for your guest’s use, with no need to buy a separate unit.
  • The unit measures 115mm high, 165mm wide and 125mm deep, and is compliant to BS 5839-3. It needs 4 1.5 volt C sized alkaline batteries which must be bought separately. Note that you cannot use rechargeable batteries with the Fireco Deafguard unit.
  • In addition to the required Deafgard unit, make deaf or hard of hearing guests feel more welcome with our Discreet Induction Loop which is perfect for your reception area and has the option of being mounted in sight of guests to let them know it is available or, more discreetly, under the desk. The induction loop is quick to install in as little as 15 minutes, for minimum disruption to your busy hotel.
  • Let your guests know you have induction loop facilities with our Loop Facility Signs, available in A4 size in either rigid plastic or self-adhesive vinyl.
