Durable 'Caution Speed Ramps - Drive Slowly' Health and Safety Signs

  • Speed ramps are a commonly used traffic calming measure to protect pedestrians from speeding traffic in and around the workplace. However, it is important to make sure drivers are aware that speed ramps are installed so as to prevent them from injuring themselves or damaging their vehicle.
  • These 'caution speed ramps - drive slowly' signs warn motorists of approaching speed ramps so they can take the necessary action and comply with the Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) regulations 1996, dictating that safety signs must be displayed clearly to warn people when a potential hazard exists. Their universal application means they can be positioned wherever required while complying with the British quality standard BS 5499.
  • The Health and Safety Executive that governs workplace safety states that limiting vehicles' speed is a vital part of controlling traffic to protect staff and visitors. The most effective way of doing this is by using fixed features, such as speed ramps, to ensure motorists can't drive too fast.
  • Speed humps are an effective way of reducing the speed of vehicles as they move around a traffic system, slowing vehicles down to an average speed of around 15 miles per hour. They are most effective when they are repeated at intervals along the route. They shouldn't be used within 15 metres of a junction or a bend for safety reasons.
  • Speed ramp warning signs must be clearly visible and must be positioned far enough away from the ramp to allow motorists to change their speed safely. The ramps themselves must also be clearly marked.
  • To help reduce traffic to a safe speed on your premises and protect site staff and visitors, we stock recycled rubber speed ramps as well as high-visibility speed ramps with yellow stripes that are ideal for heavy use.
