As an employer the health and safety executive requires you by law to display its approved health and safety at work poster. This statutory obligation comes under the Health and Safety Information for Employees Act. This act basically sets out employers’ general duties towards their employees and instructs employers to provide information relating to:
- health, safety and welfare
- rights and responsibilities
- how to get further help and advice
The health and safety law poster does exactly that! Combined, the act and poster enables an employee to be aware of their right to a safe and healthy workplace including the part they play to ensure good standards of health and safety are maintained.
Why has the health and safety law poster changed?
A review of the 1999 poster found that employees rarely read the poster and found it unappealing.
Benefits of the new poster
The revised poster presents information using:
- Clear and simple terms
- Numbered lists for important points
- Three clearly marked regulatory sections
The new poster is now manufactured using biodegradable material.
Good news for employers…
Original regulation required employers to write contact details for the local health and safety enforcing authority and medical advisor service. Changes to the latest health and safety poster means you will not have to add these details. Standard text on the new poster includes contact details for the health and safety executive and incident contact centre.
