COSHH regulations are there to keep everyone safe when dealing with potentially dangerous substances, and to be effective you need to ensure people have the right information. In terms of safety symbols, that means making sure people understand the Globally Harmonised System (GHS) symbols and that they're being used rather than the older HSID symbols.
This poster has all of the new GHS symbols for people to reference, and also includes the older symbols with a red cross in the corner so that people can compare which ones they should and shouldn't use. The GHS symbols are designed as red and white diamonds, while the out-of-date HSID versions are black symbols on an orange square. Because people may get confused or find it difficult to adjust, this poster is an excellent way to help them get used to using the correct symbols and recognising their meanings. Displaying it near to our COSHH information centre gives staff a place to go when they need to know anything relating to hazardous substances.
The poster is available on laminated paper, semi-rigid plastic, or the eco-friendly recycled plastic option, depending on your preferences. All the different versions are more durable than an ordinary paper poster, which means it will have a longer life and remain readable. It's also wipe-clean, so you can keep it in good condition and won't need to replace it if it gets dirty or dusty.
COSHH isn't only about warning symbols, although they are a significant part of understanding the dangers associated with specific materials. Our COSHH pocket guide is a convenient way for staff to have information at their fingertips. It helps them understand the important role they play in health and safety, and it can be carried in a pocket so that it's available anytime information needs to be checked.
Posters, pocket guides and training all work together to ensure people understand how to work safely with hazardous materials. We also stock a large range of GHS labels to mark substance containers. These include our compressed gas self-adhesive labels.
