Solutions for car parking area

Line marking solutions for car parks
A busy restaurant in Leeds had an unoccupied area of ground at the rear of its building ideal for off-street parking. Fortunately the previous restaurant owners had carried out some ground maintenance and laid down a flat tarmac surface – perfect for line marking.

The area had space to accommodate eight standard bays and two disability bays with one access point for car entry and exit. The restaurant owner decided to mark out the car park himself using two types of line marking kits.

Wheeled line marking applicator - ideal for marking parking bays
The first kit was a wheeled line marking applicator that dispenses traffic-grade epoxy paint in single straight lines. Wheeled applicators are Safetyshop’s most popular applicator and are great for hard surfaces like car parks and factory floors.

Preformed stencil applicators - ideal for displaying ground symbols

The second was a preformed symbol kit containing a wheel chair stencil and entrance and exit stencils. Application is easy requiring just a gas torch to bond the stencil to the ground.

Used in conjunction with line marking paints, stencils offer a simple way to highlight and mark safety areas or hazardous areas. Safetyshop’s stencils are available in letters A – Z, numbers 0 – 9, shapes, symbols and text including:

Danger stencils
Keep clear stencils
Private parking stencils
Reduce speed now stencils
No parking stencils
No exit stencils
No entry stencils
Fire exit stencils
Disabled stencil
Reserved stencils

Within one day the restaurant’s unused ground was transformed into a modest but ample off-street car park, much to the delight of its loyal customer base!

If you are considering a similar task here are a few pointers from Safetyshop’s solutions team:

• Ensure the ground to be painted is dry, clean and free from dust and grease
• If the there are no existing lines, mark-out a guide line with chalk
• If using paint do an apply test on a piece of card
• Again using pieces of card, place a piece of card at the points where you want lines to finish
• At a consistent speed, paint lines by following the chalk markings
• When you reach the finish line, marked out by the piece of card, paint over the card
• Remove the card to reveal a sharp edge
